  • At The Edge Of The Sea – Concorde 2, Brighton – 11th August 2018

At The Edge Of The Sea - Concorde 2, Brighton – 11th August 2018 At The Edge Of The Sea – Concorde 2, Brighton – 11th August 2018 This year is the 10th anniversary of the At The Edge Of The Sea (ATEOTS) festival and this is my fourth time covering it for Brightonsfinest. When I first discovered the festival five years ago I did not know much about The Wedding Present, except that their fans are the sort of people who would see The Wedding Present headline their own festival every year. It’s a very clever festival really. Firstly, the title is perfect as it’s hosted at the Concorde 2 venue, right at the edge of the sea. Also, a few of the bands have joked it should be At The Gedge Of The Sea, as the festival is put together by David Gedge, the frontman for The Wedding Present.
  • The Wedding Present – Interview 2018

The Wedding Present – Interview 2018 The Wedding Present – Interview 2018 In 1987, Leeds band The Wedding Present, riding high on the buzz generated by a number of self-released singles and the support from the likes of Radio One DJ's John Peel and Andy Kershaw, released their debut album, George Best, also on their own label, Reception. It featured a now iconic image of that equally iconic footballer of the same name on the cover, and became a minor commercial success, scraping the top 50, and cementing the band's reputation as one of the best around, one who was spearheading the so-called 'indie' scene that had slowly grown out of post-punk, and which had been encapsulated by the legendary C86 cassette that the NME gave away with their weekly print edition. Dubbed 'the most indie thing to have ever existed',...
  • At The Edge Of The Sea Festival 2017

At The Edge Of The Sea Festival 2017 At The Edge Of The Sea Festival 2017 First, a quick introduction to At The Edge Of The Sea Festival. It’s basically a Wedding Present all-day gig with loads of cool bands that David Gedge, the band’s frontman, has discovered or likes. It takes place at the Concorde 2, kicks off at 3pm sharp and the music is non-stop till kick-out time. The way it works is one band plays in the bar area, right opposite the bar in fact. As soon as they leave the stage then the next band starts up on the main stage. Likewise, when the main stage band is done then the music kicks off in the bar again. So you get a good solid eight hours of non-stop live music.

  • At The Edge Of The Sea Festival – Day 2

At The Edge Of The Sea Festival 2014 At The Edge Of The Sea 2014 – Concorde2 Day 2: Sunday 24th August 2014   © auwyn.com Day 2 began with French For Cartridge and an army of mods driving past the venue on their vespas and lambrettas. I really appreciated the way At The Edge Of The Sea had been organised so the audience can move seamlessly between artists playing in the main auditorium and a special stage set up opposite the entrance bar. The sound worked surprisingly well in this smaller space and the first act here...
  • At The Edge Of The Sea - 2014

At the edge of the Sea 2014 At the edge of the Sea 2014 - Concorde2 Day 1: Saturday 23rd August 2014   Well I'm quiet excited to hear what the music will be like over the next two days. 'At the edge of the Sea' is a 'mini indoor festival' run by The Wedding Present at the Concorde 2, next to the edge of the sea! It's a collection of bands personally chosen by David Gedge. As David said in our recent interview basically it's people he likes and wants to hang out with again. I imagine the crowd are a fairly similar mix of people who come from all over the world to meet up for this festival each year, now in it's 6th year and the first time it's run over two days.
  • David Gedge from The Wedding Present - Interview - 2014

David Gedge from The Wedding Present - Interview David Gedge from The Wedding Present - Interview - 2014   Indie music. What does that mean to you? Nowadays, the term is almost meaningless as it refers to any electric guitar based band that also sports the current haircuts and fashion. The Kooks are indie, right? Arctic Monkeys? Maybe… Indie, as originally defined, refers to music made 'independently' from major record labels, made on a DIY basis. The Wedding Present are an archetypal indie band. Not only did they release their first single on their own label, and which they self-funded, they received regular air play on the John Peel show, released 12 singles in one year, and dropped an album of Ukrainian folk songs on the folk market, albeit - and this makes the story even better - on a major label, and formed...
