  • Washed Out festival weeks away

Washed Out festival weeks away Looking like it has caught the imagination, Washed Out is a two-day festival, 13th-14th April, spread across seven venues, and featuring more than 50 bands, covering the spectrums of punk, emo and hardcore. These are musical genres that have generally eluded the mainstream and so-called 'cutting edge', but Washed Out is rooted in Brighton's underground, and dynamic DIY live music community, where there is a huge appetite for loud, in-yer-face rock. Amongst the acts booked this year are Ducking Punches, Gender Roles, Loa Loa, Birdskulls, and Patchwork Natives.

  • Birdskulls - Interview - 2015

Birdskulls - Interview - 2015 Birdskulls have created quite a name for themselves in Brighton. I was recently invited to the launch show of their debut album not knowing a huge amount about this Brighton rock three piece. However, Jack (guitar and vocals), Rory (bassist) and Sam (drum) played a phenomenal show which is without a doubt a top contender for my show of the year. Having listened to their album, Trickle, they are definitely not a one-trick-pony and are in fact an up and coming band that everyone should take note of. I caught up with the lads to find out more.   Where did you grow up? [RORY] Me and Jack are from South Devon. Jack is from Exeter and I am from South Burton [SAM] I’m...
  • Birdskulls – Bleach – 10th October 2015

Birdskulls – Bleach – 10th October 2015 Birdskulls – Bleach – 10th October 2015 The audience is spilling out onto the streets and this evening’s show at Bleach has a lively atmosphere, thick with chatter and anticipation. Birdskulls have never failed to impress me live, but it’s always been in the subordinate roll of the support act. As tonight’s headliners I’m hoping for the more receptive crowd that the band deserve, and by the end of the evening the audience has more than delivered.
  • Birdskulls – Trickle

Birdskulls – Trickle I’m having mixed feelings about that name. On one hand it has a gnarly punk sound to it that suits the band. But bird skulls are small, brittle things that you could probably crush under your foot. Birdskulls music in contrast, is anything but fragile. The three piece manage to emit a sound, both live and on record, that is absolutely huge and has some serious weight too it. A rhino’s skull might be more appropriate, or at the very least a large dog’s.
